Open defecation is one of the biggest problems of India as on today. In our country there are countless number of villages where most of the houses lack basic facility of toilet. Thus, many people are forced to defecate in the open. Even our prime minister has stressed on this matter many times during his speeches.

Why open defecation is a major problem?

Open defecation is a big concern for our country but it has never been taken care of. With open defecation, risk of microbial contamination of water increases manyfolds. Thus, when water is contaminated with microbial contamination, diarrhoea outbreak will happen. Many children miss their school for days due to diarrhea and other diseases caused by poor sanitation. Also there are numerous deaths of children below 14 years attributed to these diseases.

Why open defecation prevails in India?

Now you might be wondering why people open defecate when their health is at risk? There are many reasons due to which people still don't consider building a toilet in their house as a necessity. Many people in our country are unaware of the grave consequences of open defecation. Also many villagers are very poor to have a toilet at their homes. Third reason is many villagers think it is not necessary to have a toilet in their house. So these factors are grooming open defecation fashion in the rural areas of our country.

Domex's initiative to eliminate open defecation

HUL's Domex has begun its initiative to make few villages of Maharashtra and Orissa open defecation free zones. Let us see how Domex is helping many villages to be open defecation free zones and also how we can contribute in this noble cause.

About Domex Toilet Academy
